I seriously doubt it. An attempt was made to nationalize the church and many people, especially nuns, preferred execution to this. The Revolutionary Tribunal was quite ready to accommodate them in their preference.

Moreover, the revolutionaries also attempted to replace the traditional Catholic faith of the majority of the French with the cult of Reason. This, as might be expected, was better accepted in the cities than in the country, where many peasants kept their faith alive, even if only underground.

They really didn't have much of a say in it. The "church" in France was in just as much trouble for taking advantage of the common people as the royalty was.
