It's simple. There aren't enough real mathematicians in the country to fill all the maths teaching posts, even if they all applied. Most of them, anyway, would rather die than try to teach - teaching is a job for extraverts, while maths attracts introverted types who love to curl up with a pad & work it out by themselves.
It follows that maths is taught mainly by guys who don't really understand it themselves. It is therefore the worst taught subject in the curriculum.
Is it any wonder that people want help?

ALL 3! Everyone learn using different methods, and doing different things. The way math is taught in schools appeals to some, and does not to others. Why? It's either because the way it is taught and the method(s) used, that the student can not understand or because the student looks at math and sees it as trying to discover a medicine that kills all diseases. Honestly, math is difficult to me and at times when we are starting new units, sometimes I find myself asking is there another way of doing this, so that I am able to understand more & better. Overall, math is one of the most complex subjects of academics that is not taught nor practiced accordingly.

I think you've got the answer right there. It's pretty much all three. Math is difficult to learn and having a good teacher is key. Many students simply aren't interested in understanding it. In addition, our school systems are set up so that students continue to pass through grades, whether they know the material or not. Since math is a building subject (you need to be able to add and subtract in order to muliply and divide) students start out behind and continue to fall further and further behind as the difficulty of the material increases.

I think it is pretty much that people don't understand math and feel like they don't get enough info at school. Math is difficult to research online, so they will want an actual person to help them. Many kids can't afford tutors, so yahoo answers provides a way to ask questions. I also think many students dislike math and don't pay attention, or just don't get it.

Sometimes it's easier to understand how to solve a math problem when it's explained by your peers in your own language. Teachers sometimes tend to use terminology difficult to understand and they often skip steps they assume you should have learned in a previous class. I think most posters ask questions because they really want to know the answers.

Dachy's spot on. It's been my experience that 90% of the askers have no interest in understanding anything you're saying. They simply copy and paste the question over and wait for someone to give them the answer.
They continue to ask because people continue to answer :)
