What types of insects like to make their home in a red tip photinia plant?

There are white things, for lack of a better term on them. They look like pods, or little shells, they are of a soft nature, as in they collapse with a little bit of pressure. Any ideas as to what it may be?

I suspect scale insects.... see if one linked there is like yours... the sites should have info on helping to rid your plants of them, too....
