You will need to know about business development, real estate management, finance, accounting, business and real estate law, and construction management. Yes, I'd say that some college would be useful, perhaps a self-directed major so you can include all those areas.

There are many aspects to being a successful property developer. You have to be able to select the proper location to develop based on good business practices. Developers have reasons for investing their money where they do. They don't take some other guy's word that something will turn out making them all rich unless there are good economic reasons for everything.
Start by getting a good basic business college degree. Then go into real estate and become a broker. From there, make friends with a banker or a construction company executive and form a partnership. Don't expect to get rich until you are in your late 30's at the earliest, and probably not until you hit 50.
