I have got four user accounts on my pc,and I'm the administrator and I have forgotton my password. I have no recovery or original disc to put into my pc and I need to get to my files for work but can't access them. How can I change the password with no discs at all. The other problem I'm having is the pc is telling me that "a pop up window was blocked" and it is doing my head in. I think that someone knew the password and has changed it. Can anybody help me, even by getting into my pc from somewhere else in the world via remote and if that is the case, how do I go about setting that up. I am an idiot when it comes to computers?

When your computer is booting hit F5 until it bleeps or the boot menu appears

Select 'Safe mode' on this menu and your OS will boot in its safe mode

When your log on screen appears, select 'administrator' - it has no password, alternatively, if you type in your username, type in administrator.

When it has logged and loaded up, just change or remove your password from the control panel as this account has administrator rights.

Restart and continue to use your computer as normal

Hope i've helped you!

I assume you have access to a second PC ?

Plug the hard disk from the broken PC into the second PC (as D:) then search for (or browse for) your fies & copy them off as follows :-

Remove the power plug from the back of the PC before opening (these days, even a 'shut down' PC still has live power on the motherboard)

If the PC's are not too old the drive will be a 'SATA' type .. this uses a thickish data cable, bit like a flat ethernet or phone extension cable (as opposed to a 2 inch wide 'ribbon' type cable) ...

If your second PC already has two hard disks you will have to swap the second drive for the C: disk out of your first PC. If not, there MAY be a spare data cable danglingaround in the second PC (if not, move the C: drive along with it's cable).

If the first PC is older (and the C: drive is the flat 2 inch ribbon cable type), then you can swap it for the DVD/CD drive in the second PC.

If the second PC is the older one (and has no SATA connections), whilst the first has a SATA drive you are stuffed (adapters DO exist .. however you would do better to find a newer PC to plug your drive into).

The second PC should 'see' the drive from the first PC (as D:) automatically on boot up.

Create a boot CD using this software (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ )

Boot your PC from CD and follow the steps to blank out your Administrator password. You should then be able to login to the PC. I recently had to get into a PC via this method and it worked perfectly. Follow the instructions carefully though as you can really screw yourself up if you're not careful.

Warning -- If you have files encrypted, this will not get you into those files. In fact, they will be permanently lost to you.

1st answer you will not get in without admin p/word (take it you didn't make a password reset disc) & 3rd answer~ does he not realise you cannot change passwords without admin rights? cannot comment on second as have no knowledge of it. admin rights are there for a reason so that no unauthorised access or changes are made.(if there were ways around this, there would be no point having it)! you will have to make a complete reinstall (sorry). i had to do this when i reverted back to my old comp with xp on it to upload files and could not rem. old password. ps~password should only be known by yourself and NO ONE else
