I would like to know how many people on here believe that the Patriot act should remain in place also please say your party affiliation if you have one and whether or not you vote. AND whether or not you have read the patriot act itself. if you prefer not to list some parts on here that is fine you can either leave it how it is or message me.

This poll is mainly for my politics and government class and i am doing a report on the act, so i thought a poll would be good. thank you for your answers.

Most of it should be scrapped as against the US Constitution. It abrogates rights of free speech, privacy, warrantless search and seizure, all in the name of ill-defined "terrorism." Terrorists have been around since dirt, so there is nothing new to justify such an attack on basic Constitutional rights.
Independent.

I have read most parts of the Patriot Act, though it was a few years ago. I am an independent, most closely aligned with Green Party values. I do NOT believe the Patriot Act should remain in use. It is something you would expect to see in a fascist country, not a "free" democratic country. I vote in all local, state and national elections.

thats a very tough question because what its trying to accomplish is good but some of the ways are against our constitutional rights..i think it should be revised..but im not sure to what extent its actually done to protect our country i think the patriot act is really treading on thin water and i do strongly believe that if more people knew about it and the fact that it crosses our right to privacy they would be outraged but the sad thing is SO many Americans have NO clue about the acts and about what really his happening in our countries government! but yes i have read it, i vote mostly democrate BUT if i feel a republican would do a better job i'll vote for them..

I think most parts of the Act go beyond what is considered protecting Americans. I think it should be repealed or modified in almost complete entirety.
And yes I do vote. I voted Republican until Bush SR..then I voted Democrat. I also voted Democrat when Bush JR ran both times.
I am as of yet undecided as to which party I will vote for. I am waiting for the parties to be nominated and then I will make my choice based on their platform, views etc.

I can't say because I don't know in detail what it's done, or if it had not been in place what the difference would be. I can't measure its success or failure. While it alarmingly goes against the Bill of Rights, I have not heard any factual allegations that this has been done to any Americans, and I can understand why it does negate some parts of the Bill of Rights for certain circumstances.
I do vote, Republican. I have read the Patriot Act from top to bottom, word for word. I always read everything, the talking heads always get it wrong.
