Fields is okay, I guess, but the only thing that he has the advantage over in Crede, is his age. Crede isn't old! He's still in his twenties! Every stat (especially defensive ones) is better. Yes, Josh Fields played less, but his average is a lot worse. A lot! His average wouldn't likely be higher by playing more games. Crede was killing opposing pitchers the season before he got injured. He has gold glove and silver slugger caliber play. Josh Fields might have silver slugger, but definitely not gold glove. Would you like silver slugger and gold glove, or just a possible silver slugger? Come on, it's a no-brainer!

I think that the Sox should resign him for at least a year. If the surgery went badly they will be able to tell, and then they can trade him. I say keep him. Joe was really good in the past with the Sox and I believe he deserves a chance. He is an incredible fielder, and a nice, clutch hitter. Fields is a good player, but not as good in the field(ironic huh) as Crede. He is a mediocre fielder and a good hitter. I would go with Crede for one year at least to see how his surgery affects him.

I love Clutch Crede buti think hes gonna go. Look what Fields did as a rookie compared to Crede Fields hit 22 0r 23 homers and Crede has only done that once and Fields didn't even play the whole year. Crede is twice the defender that Fields is but Fields is younger and doesn't have a bad back that has cause Crede to miss time several times. Trade Crede for some pitching or a good outfielder.

The problem is - Crede will not resign with the Sox. His agent already stated that. So they will try to trade him, not because of performance - but because he will be gone after this year. Plus, GM Kenny Williams is a jerk, and wants to trade him away because he is mad that Crede did not have surgery right after the 2006 season, so he was paid last year for riding the DL.

I'd say that at the first sign of Fields producing at the Major League Level Crede should go... Get a pitcher or some bullpen help.

Chances are they will eventually trade him. What you say is definately true, but the guy did have back surgery. I hear if they don't land Rowand, they may possibly trade him to LA for Juan Pierre. There is no guarantee Crede will be the same guy after having major surgery, and the Sox have serious needs in the outfield and at lead-off, which Pierre can provide.

No. Crede has been improving each year and he was good in '06. See what he does this spring before you cut him loose.

yes with all those teams needing a third basemen... they will pay big... joe Creede is really good, but if they trade him they could fill in some more holes.... i mean fields with more game-time, he will get better

LOL they should get Inge. Great defense, and if he's on, 30 HR's. Fans love him, too, with his diving-into-the-stands catches.
