So I was wondering what you guys have heard of the worst things people had on their background and still got accepted for Top secret. This is a continuation of my last post.. relating to chances of me getting denied for having tried mj once and getting fined at my University for downloading music and unblocking myself, also having a speeding ticket.... I plan on admiting and truthfully telling all. Real answers no guesses... thanks guys.

Correction to a response. If read carefully, I had asked what is the worst you have "heard". Never did I once ask anyone to give me their clearance or passed expirence. Or "trick" for this matter.

The first thing checked for a security clearance is your credit rating. Really. They do not want people who are hard up for cash.

Prior drug use is not a disqualifyer, but you will have to work hard to prove you're completely clean. If you deny it, and they find out, you will loose your clearance. Speeding tickets are a non issue. Hacking is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. They really want people who are good at hacking, but to get them, they have to recruit hackers.

I had an arrest for possession (no charges filed) on my record and got a Q clearance for DOE back in the 80s. There was a special interview involved, but I don't see anything you said that looks like a real disqualifier. The downloading thing is actually probably worse, since that is an indicator of disrespect for legal authority. You might have to explain that one. You're better off divulging that stuff though, than letting them find out about it later. I saw them rescind a couple of people's clearances during my time at that line of work for innocuous events that people hadn't disclosed.

Edit:

I don't have a clearance any more, so please don't kill me.

the sad truth is you can not get top secret clearance by telling the truth. i have a friend who became a police man rather than a state trooper. he failed the state troopers position because he told the truth about minor incidences, similar to yours. when he went for the local police position he lied about these things and was hired immediately.

First of all, in any way, shape or form, tricking others, whether intentional or untentional, to reveal that they even HAVE a top security clearance. You may be putting their lives in danger,
Think about it.
