He is impressed with intelligent conversation, and I really need to know how do I impress him when i know nothing about physics!! Tell me something cool I can discuss with him related to physics.

Ask him how can a photon be a wave and a particle at the same time, or about what is gravity. Having him explain them would probably get him more excited than you trying to learn indepth theories that you probably don't really care about and wouldn't be able to discuss in too much detail.

Also, Dr. Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" or "The Universe in a Nutshell" are very good for none physics people to learn about bigger physics concepts without having to get into the complicated maths and such, if you have the time to read them.

My suggestion is to just ask for details. If he is that much of a physics maniac, chances are that he'll bring up the topic. All you have to do is to ask for more details. This should lead to the effect similar to adding gas to fire and he'll end up doing most of the talking.

Just be sure to actually pick out the details that interest you. If you ask about something that bores you and ends up going in one ear and out the other, you will likely ask the same question again later on and end up annoying him more than anything else.

Go out and buy the audio book "Six Easy Pieces" by Richard Feynman and listen to the six discs. Feynman was a Nobel Laureate in physics and these six lectures (along with the accompanying book) are great listening and reading. You will learn some really cool stuff!

Don't try to talk about physics as it will get complicated. He might say something that will just fly over your head. Try to talk about astronomy. Physics and astronomy are very closely realted. He'll be interested in that too. Just go online search for black holes etc....look at Stephen Hawking's ideas and the critics. This will not require a lot of reading and will give you good knowledge to talk about. Good Luck

All you have to do is be interested and sincere...you dont need to know anything about physics. He is a human being, and he wants to feel like he is appreciated. Ask him about physics, ask him to explain stuff. Its a male thing...we want to know that we know something and that we can lead and teach others...pretty pathetic i know. Tell him you dont know much about it but it sound interesting...be honest. After you get more comfortable with eachother he should start asking you questions. If you get to that point then you guys will probably do great.

Just be smart. It isn't necessary you talk about physics. Just understand whatever he talks about, and steer the conversation your way also.

Geeks are good!!
