For doing something wrong or bad? Could have been a hand, switch, board, or the dreaded razor strap?

My Mom used her hand until we got big enough, then my Dad started with 5 and ended up by the time I was in high school with 15.

Several times, but I deserved each one, no doubt. My dad was a barber, and yes, he had an extra razor strop. Or two.

Then I had 2 sons, and I, too, used the strop. They found it, stole it, and buried it in the back yard. After 20 years, I've still not found it!

A few, it was usually with a belt, sometime a paddle ball paddle. My brothers used to get whacked more than I, being boys of course. There actually used to be a sort of competition going on amongst us to see who was getting the most whacks per punishment. I do not remember who came out the winner. But I do know that as we got older and had more padding in that region, the whacks did not hurt as much as they once used to.
That's OK I guess I'm a stronger person because of it. and I would rather have been disciplined that way. then some of today's children that never get disciplined at all. Or their parents just say to them Johnny or Mary that's not nice, or we don't do that. Or just send them to their rooms, where all their electronics are.
I know when my kids were a little older we used to make them stand in the corner for a while. They used to hate that to no end.

Not often, see my brother was 12 years older and I watched him get the belt and such but I learned to stay out of the way for the most part. I do remember one time at about 7 that my dad spanked me with a belt. It wasn't that bad, but I cried like I was dying so he would quite sooner. He never spanked me again. My mom once slapped me across the face when I was about 13 when I accidentally blurted out something bad and was saying I'm sorry even before she got to me. But I deserved it!

I can't count that high. My mother would use a switch or make us wait until my dad got home. He used his belt. I always wanted to be first and get it over with. It was easier if I didn't have to listen to my brothers yell and cry. I was pretty stubborn, I wouldn't yell and I held back the tears until I had left the room. Don't get me wrong, this was in no way child abuse. Dad hated whipping us and used a light hand. It hurt, but not that bad.

The hand was used up to a certain age..a coupla well-placed smaks on the butt was enough.

When we go a little older-10 or so, we had to go outside and pick our own willow switch when we were due for a spanking.

Mother would sit on the edge of the tub, make us lay down across her lap. She then would ask if we knew why were were being spanked and, after making sure we were comfortably settled on her lap, she'd give a few with the switch.

They never hurt...but, it sure cured the ills.

A well-place swat across the rearend can work miracles.

More times than I care to relive.
My mom had a belt she hung in the hall closet, the buckle on it jingled when she carried it. We'd hear that jingle coming down the hallway and we'd be crying before she even touched us.
She had 6 kids and instead of trying to determine which one of us was in the wrong, she spanked all of us.
That was one way for us to learn the meaning of teamwork. If one of us seemed inclined to act up, the other 5 quickly nipped it in the bud so that we didn't all get spanked.

I had a father that would swing that razor strop for any little titter made after he settled in front of the TV.

Too many times to count Wally...not that I want to remember anyway...fist, wooden paddle (with holes), razor strop (with holes), belt (buckle end), construction boot, frying pan...anything close to hand really.

Last time was when I was 17. My father called me a whore (I was actually a virgin), I slapped his face (first and last time), he came after me with his fists and wouldn't stop until both my head and my fingers were split open to bone. My sister actually jumped on his back and put him in a choke hold to stop him.

Never, but my poor brother did, until he turned 14 or 15. When dad came at him with a belt he let my dad have it. That was the end of the belt.

I do not really remember getting hit but I do remember if we attempted to act up all we had to do was hear the belt snapping sound or mom grabbing the wooden spoon...that was enough for us. I did go to a catholic school and there was a big wooden paddle and I don't know of anyone who DID'NT get it ( one kid used to wear 2 pairs of long johns under his pants just incase ) !!!

My parents never used anything but their hands. My grandmother used to use a switch. She would send the culprit out to choose a switch and watch through the window. By the time they came back in, she had spent enough time laughing at them trying to find one that would not hurt too much, but would be acceptable to her that she wasn't punishing them out of anger. Once she used a blade of what she called grass - some kind of weed - on my older brother when he was two. She didn't think it would hurt at all. It raised such welts on his legs that she never used anything but her hand again. I can't tell you how many times she told me that story. She really felt guilty. I think he survived. He's still a brat!
