The Indy 500 has never been run on Labor Day or for that matter, the day before. I believe that you may be asking about Memorial Day.

Didn't you mean Memorial Day since the Indy 500 is run in May, and Labor Day is in Sept??? They have been running it on Sunday now, seems like 30 yrs atleast..

The Indianapolis 500 was originally run on Decoration Day. Decoration Day was later renamed Memorial Day in the '50s.
