What next??

I'm A Chevy guy.....not a Ford fan.

i'm a chevy guy too....however i worked in a parts store for about 10 years and sold alot of ford parts. A very common replaced part is the EGR position sensor on that generaton ford. may also be know as a ressure feedback sensor.
just a thought.

there should be a solenoid that activates the EGR valve on that engine - when those solenoids go bad, they cause strange issues.

Fords are programmed to only activate the EGR system, when at cruising speed, within a throtle/rpm/vacuum range so it only really works on the highway.

In this EGR system there 6 different components.Any of them could be at fault.EGR system does NOT have separate Erg emissions light, that is your check engine light is flashing. In this case ECM trying to bring you attention to severe threat to your catalytic converter because of O2 sensor senses a lot of raw fuel going down to exhaust system. This is critical situation and ECM trying to let you know that you will have severe damage to cat pretty soon.I'm sure cat is cherry red, when you driving.Problem is you have Tuneup problem and misfire. You should check this out ASAP,before it's to late.Good luck.

try replaceing egr valve or have the computer check the readings

keep your egr valve closed its just emissions for the most part. what it does is recirculates exhaust gasses to be recombusted in your engine with it out you may also be keeping that stang a tad cooler especially for that 302. if it really bugs you on the interstate pull the fuse relay out

Just because it moves does not mean it's in working order. I'd just replace it. They're not that high.
