sure. there is no magic that changes a baby to be able to drink cows milk at 1. 11 1/2 months is perfectly mature enough for cow milk.

my 2 kids enjoyed taking sips of my chocolate milk. and my orange juice, and my ice tea, and my soda. they have not developed the sweet fangs that some might say will happen. anything in moderation is okay- even for adults. my kids perfer bannanas over candy bars. and by starting them out early trying different foods they even like foods my wife and i don't eat. just practice moderation.

He's too young to know it's his birthday. If you want him to develop a sweet tooth, go for it, but it will be harder to get him to eat healthy foods if you already want to feed him junk like ovaltine.

He is old enough, but do you really want to feed you baby junk? I refuse to give my twins anything to drink besides plain milk and water. I know the addiction level that sweet drinks hold with me, and I am trying to do better with my children. why bother just give him plain milk!
