what are your opinions on harvesting embryos and then killing them for stem cell research. although im pro choice for personal reasons i think it wrong- why create life when you know you're going to kill it ahead of time?

i believe in the right to chose, i personally would never have an abortion but i dont belive people should "create" abortions purposely

im not talking about ivf though im talking about stem cell reasearch when they create emryos and then just kill them for the cells

frozen unused embryos which would otherwise be discarded.
Tissue from miscarriages (primary source, and the woman's right to donate)
Donated stem cells

So I guess the better question would be

what do you think of children in a country as wealthy as the US dying of cancer after the misery of chemotherapy, radiation and isoation because their government forbids research on what will be THROWN AWAY, thanks to political lobbying by special interest religious groups. Really? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT? Will you donate stem cells from your next child for research? Will you be sure to release the results of your miscarriage so something good can come of it? Stem cell research can now be done using skin cells, so no need to harm fetuses.

People have abortions for many reasons and I'm not against it unless the woman is using it as a means of birth control.

I think it is wrong as stem cell research can be done in so many different ways to this, why not use and umbilical cord from a wanted healthy baby that has been born rather than creating life then destroying it just so some bloke somewhere can try and make a name for himself

I see it all the time in IVF. They purposely fertilize eggs and then once the woman become pregnant, she usually disposes of the rest of the viable embryos, unless she wants to freeze them to have a second child.

These women go through a lot and once they get their miracle baby and they have no use for the rest of the eggs, then they are just going to get thrown out anyway. They were created for the right reasons (to have a baby) but were unnecessary to the cause. I see nothing wrong with giving whatever "life" this 8 celled embryo has a meaning, by using it to help cure diseases.

If couples are just throwing them away, why not use them to help cure my uncle of his Lou Gherig's Disease? Or my gramma and grampa of their cataracts?

I think people should use birth control but I dont think anyone is intentionally getting pregnant to create fetuses for the purpose of stem cell reseach...
