My question is about our Tim Pawlenty. He just doesn't seem very Republican to me. Since he's been in office, he has raised the Cigarette tax 75 cents from where it was, has outlawed smoking in everywhere, including bars and restaurants. He is endorsing legislation to get cigarette smoking banned everywhere public, such as parks (it already takes effect at Universities the first of January) and he is now taking it one step further. He is endorsing legislation to get people to not smoke in their cars if there are children in there and even in your apartment if you are someone that doesn't have a house. Next thing we'll be reading on the news is that he is legalizing pot and crack. What the HECK? If he's a democrat, why didn't he just say so?

Jo. I didn't mean to offend you. I have been telling jokes for quite some time. I was not referring to your question. I have been not asking questions but rather telling jokes.

I totally agree with you Jade. Had I known he would be an anti-smoking Nazi, I would have NEVER voted for him. I'm a non-smoker, and I am AGAINST smoking bans. Let the free market determine these things. The reason there are smoking bans is because if restaurants and bars implemented their own non-smoking policies, they would go out of business - the fun usually follows smokers. I lived in a county in Minnesota where smoking was banned in restaurants before the state wide ban took place, so in bars where food was served, an area had to be partitioned off for non-smoking...what do you think happened?? The non-smoking area was dead and the bar (where smoking was allowed) was PACKED!! Couldn't even move.
People act like if there was no smoking people would never die!! It's ridiculous. If smoking truly is so bad, then BAN it entirely...but hey, be prepared for HEFTY tax hikes for everyone to recoup the losses in cigarette taxes!!
It's really sad when people can't hardly drink in a bar because of the .08 alochol limit for driving under the influence, now you can't smoke??? How are people supposed to unwind from stress?? By beating their spouses and expressing road rage??
Sorry for my rantings, you sure touched a sore spot with me!!

First you have to recall, he is not a Republican, but an Independent Republican. They took the name IR after Nixon. Anyway, Minnesota is a progressive state. In order for a IR to get elected they have to appeal the the left of center. Smoking is a health hazard. If they tried to introduce cigarettes today, they would be illegal. Also, the legislature passed the laws, he just signed them.
Hey, and lastly, isn't Minnesota that State that any adult without a felony conviction, get a permit to carry a concealed weapon? Do not places that don't want you packing your gun, even a church, have to post a sign saying you may not carry in here?

Compared to (D) Jennifer Granholm in Michigan, he is a super con. She raised cigarette tax 7.00 a carton twice! Which actually lowered the revenue because people started buying them out of State. Now that was what a real democrat did, Pawlenty is just a democrat wanna bee, once he does go for the legalizing of pot, and ban all guns, he will be a full fledged Democrat.

To answer your question;
Pawlenty may not be the best republican out there that is for sure. But he is strong on National Defense and is against a lot of democrat bills promoting socialist programs. In 08, I will still support him over Al Frankin he is really scary. The Cities are slowly taking over the voice of the rest of the state.
