this is some what common behavior for new fish. they will eat more and become more active once they get use to there new enviroment.

Are you giving them flake food? Are you breaking it up between your fingers so it's small enough for them to eat it? If not, you ought to. They'll eat when they're hungry. Give them a pinch every day (no more!) Uneaten food will build up, dirty the tank, and kill your fish if you're not careful. They may just not be hungry, or you may not see them eating it (they do have tiny mouths, after all). And guppies hang out at the top of the tank. That's where they chill. If you want some fish for the mid-tank area, look into some of the more docile tetra species, and for bottom-dwellers look at cory cats and plecostomus (algea eaters).

This is a good example of why you should ask the employees to feed the fish while you watch, BEFORE you buy them.

Do you have a brand new tank? Did you allow the water to completely cycle (meaning 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 40ppm or less of Nitrates)?

Get a test kit and test for these things plus pH. Your fish may have a problem with your water.

They are probably nervous right now. My betta didn't eat until about 3 days after I got it. Make sure that the flakes are small enough for your guppies to eat as well.

do not keep feeding them. wait one or two days and try again. if they dont eat it then scoop it out of the tank and try again the next day.
