Like what? Some things really are private.

It depends what they were hiding. If it was a marital infedelity, I could probably overlook it, everyone makes mistakes, and I think what a candidate does in the bedroom is their own business. If they were a former member of the Communist party, or knowingly gave money to terrorists, or some such, I would definitely have second thoughts about their intentions as the future leader of our country.

No, a candidate's personal life is of no concern to me so long as he or she has not violated any laws, molested any women, or committed perjury before a grand jury.

Seriously, the intense scrutiny of candidates' personal lives is a primary reason why a lot of great people won't run. Who wants every stupid thing they've ever done to be displayed in the headlines of the New York Times?

Not if what he hid was a personal pecadillo. Sex, drugs, even a misdemeanor or two would not influence my vote if I shared the candidates vision for America's future. Bill's tawdry and tasteless sex life, even his bending the truth a tad, had no measureable effect on the economy or our standing in the world. And those who persecuted him the loudest have turned out to have no few skeletons in their closets.

Depends on what they are trying to hide.

If they are trying to hide things about their private lives, sex life, family life, and other personal matters, I think that they should have such privacy.

Now if they are trying to hide crooked business deals, connections to known criminal organizations or fringe groups, or something on that level, then I definitely want to know about it.

Sure does! If they are hiding something, what else is there? It also shows a lack of character that they can't fess up to things (AKA lie)!

They all do it. Everyone has something in their life that they don't want the world to know about.
