Can you please explain to me how the troops are feeling safer, due to some of you telling them they "can't win" the war in Iraq?
Also, do any of you think our American troops should lose, even when they can win? Thanks.

Define win? and I don't mean that in an aggressive way towards you.. it's just that "winning" the war isn't necessarily a victory for our nation. That doesn't mean I think we should LOSE.. losing would be laying down and taking one up the a*s and I don't think that's a good idea.. but we should find a way OUT which is not losing, it's just rectifying a mistake. I would see that as a victory.

Lets be perfectly honest here. Bush f*cked up big time. And I have no problem with the people who say "yeah, he screwed up.. but shouldn't we fix the mistake".. my problem is the guy they want to fix the mistake is the same guy who keeps screwing up! Why do you think so many people wanted benchmarks and time lines? Because even a screw up has a hard time messing up when it's laid out in paper for him! You put a better leader in office today and they have my support for 1-2 years of "fix Bushes mistake in Iraq" which I'm sure would include having troops there. But I will NOT support someone who has proved themselves incompetent running the program when OUR troops and the IRAQI citizens are the ones that pay the price. So I support the troops because I don't want an incompetent leader placing them in harms way without so much as a plan on how to get them out. How can you say you support the troops if you WANT them in that situation.. no matter the reason?

Does that help explain my view to you better? Hopefully so.

the objective of the non-binding determination is to illustrate to Bush and his handler, Cheney, that the two dem and reps are against the troop advance. a minimum of this non-binding determination shows that the newely elected congress is making an attempt to symbolize the desire of the people. the incontrovertible fact that Bush et. al, have not have been given something yet contempt for the desire of the people would not invalidate the non-binding determination. one extra element. would not it look unusual to you that we are sending Amercian little ones with almost no practise and inadequate kit over to Iraq to coach the Iraqi defense force? How approximately protecting those troops homestead until eventually they're correct experienced?

It's impossible to 'win' a conflict for which the indigenous population isn't terribly interested in assuming responsibility. Granted the US created the insurgency in Iraq so the question becomes do we abandon the mess we made or not?

Consider your own morals. Self-righteousness is not flattering.

the question of winning or losing should have never been asked. the question of right and wrong should have been asked and answered. the attack and occupation of Iraq was wrong. They had nothing to do with 9-11 and they were not a threat to us............. 4000 troops would be alive today if we hadn't invaded Iraq. We did NOT need to go there.

Neocon, what does winning look like? Does the Conservative right have any concrete ideas of how to achieve victory?

In war, victory is not some abstract thought. How is victory achieved? What needs to happen for our troops to achieve victory, and then **bring them home?**

The troops are heroes. The problem is the NeoCons want to keep them in harm's way indefinitely, in order to protect Halliburton's interest and to keep the people in "support the troops" mode to bat down criticism of the administration, which isn't working. The people know the troops are heroes, and the administration putting them in harm's way are wrong.

As a former "troop" myself, I feel that they are upholding their oath UNLIKE the commander and chief.

Would it be OK for Bush to send US troops down an active volcano as long as people tell them they won't be burned alive by the lava? Of course it wouldn't. So why lie to them, as Bush has, about Iraq?

The statement that it cannot be one is from a political perspective not military....not a single person has ever claimed that the US military cannot defeat any military in the world....... I love and support all our troops...as a matter of fact I have a loved one in Iraq at this moment.....

In a nutshell.... I respect and honor our fighting men so much I will not tolerate a drop of their blood being spilled in a war that serves no purpose

You sure must have very little respect for our brave troops, if you think that our opinions can affect their ability to fight. The fact that we can't win has nothing to do with the efforts of the troops, it has everything to do with the massive failures of the people responsible for this conflict. Of course we don't want the troops to lose, we just want them home.
