It sounds to me that the Catalytic Converter has collapsed and plugged up the exhaust.. Does the car idle fine? but then won't rev.. Have that checked at a muffler shop.. The engine can't breath and get rid of the exhaust so its bogging the car down. If the car idles fine the ignition is doing its job.. You can also look at the fuel pressure. This car has a electric pump in the tank..
Good Luck

Check the catalytic converter. If it is clogged you can have the symptoms you have . You can try a couple simple tests. Have a buddy see if the exhaust coming out of the tail pipe has good flow. You should not be able to stop the flow with a gloved hand. If you can then unbolt the converter and start the engine. If it revs past 3000 RPM, have the converter replaced and the exhaust system checked for blockage. The converter catalyst will break up and plug the muffler.

I would check plugs and wires and the injectors try running some injector cleaner through her put a bottle in the gas tank and let her run even if she is running at idle if this is it's problem it could fix it. Plugs next while the car is running disconnect a plug wire one at a time and see if you have a change in engine noise. I had this problem with a car of mine and it was a dead plug. Good luck.

If it is not running rough at idle, the catalytic converter may be clogged up and the engine is not breathing properly.

If it is running rough at idle your timing belt/chain has jumped a notch and your engine timing is off.

When I was little we had one of those totally 70's vans with carpet and drapes... We used to take road trips and I remember my dad asking me to bring him up beers from the back cooler as he was driving, with little kids in the car and staying up for over 48 hours on end to get where we were going on time! Nice! Really nice!
