We have had a guy from Border Lofts, who has broken our house alarm system and our conduit cable in the loft. He is not an electrician. Is this work legal?

there are certain parts of the home,kitchen/bathroom where you need a qualified sparky, small repairs can be done yourself

Alarms are low voltage so that should be ok but any installation guarantee is now void.

Working on the electrical system needs to be done by a qualified electrician and will need a test and inspection certificate.

Depends on what you means by "Conduit cable".

Alarms certainly don't have to be done by a 'competent person' .

Whether it is legal, depends on your areas Codes. He is responsible for damages and anything that would cause a fire from bad workmanship. Hope he is insured. The company should be covering the breakage currently.
