When you install the new rotors, remove the brake pads, and scruff them up on the pavement to remove the wear-in marks your old rotors left on them. Another way is to buy some sandpaper that has adhesive on the back, stick it to the wall of your garage, and them lightly sand the pads in an orbital motion until you are satisfied that the surfaces look even , and new (not glazed).

You may experience squeaking while stopping. Since the pads didn't mesh with THOSE rotors at the time of the change.. and no major damage has occurred on the old rotor to affect the new pads. Its always best to change everything at the same time... You have to push the piston back into the caliper since the new rotor is a larger in thickness. don't change one rotor and leave the old rotor on the other side. Replace both of them.. It will keep the car braking evenly

Everything should be fine. The worse that will happen is you will lose some braking capacity but probably not enough you will notice. Just be sure and check the brakes before you take off in traffic.

it shouldn't hurt anything...

assuming you don't have any huge grooves in your old rotors...
