I'm in a scene (from the play "The Shadow Box") in my acting class, and I need some help putting together an outfit for my character. My director described my chracter as an extremely sassy Karen (from Will and Grace). She said I'll probably need lots of accessories, and I think she's probably very fashionable (for the 1970's). I'm only 19 and I really don't know what to do...

The fashion influence of Sixties hippies was mainstreamed in the Seventies, as men sported shoulder length hair and non-traditional clothing became the rage, including bellbottom pants, hip huggers, colorful patches, hot pants, platform shoes, earth shoes, clogs, T-shirts, and gypsy dresses. Knits and denims were the fabrics of choice. Leisure suits for men became commonplace, and women were fashionable in everything from ankle-length grandmother dresses to hot pants and micro-miniskirts

Tie died T shirts, men's plade short sleeve shirts tied over the belly button. Hip high bell bottom jeans with patches sewed on it, american flag, peace symbol, band names like Jimi Hendrix

Parted in the middle or bangs up front and parted in the middle.

Sandals or platform shoes or clogs

a granny dress with high heel boots or clogs

embrodery in yur jeans, maybe a cut out heart with metal taking around it.

Astrology symbols around your neck or embrodered on the jeans.

You might want to do several outfits and do a change if there are different scenes.

The easiest way to see 70's fashions is to catch an episode or two of the tv show " That 70's Show". Look at the "Jackie" character. I hope this helps!

Have a look through the link to pictures. You may find that you have something in your wardrobe that is similar to some of the fashions in the '70's.
