Capitalism is cyclic, we're due for a recession. Wouldn't it be better to just let it happen so we can recover, rather than taking little steps to keep it at bay so when it finally does happen, it's 10x worse to get out of? We've been teetering on the edge for several years now, and the economy has just gotten worse, the housing market, inflation, etc. Just curious as to what others think.

politicians don't get re elected when there are recessions. that is the reason they avoid it like the plague with false promises of government intervention to make everything OK. there is no free ride. we need to just get it over with.

Recessions produces unemployment which waste labor resources which cannot be recovered at a later date. It takes several years to reach full employment after each recession so extending the period between recessions increases average growth rate of the economy. It is not just that consumption that declines, but investment in future productive resources.
