He was not at risk for "great bodily harm" therefore, he should have called the police and reported what he seen
He took the law into his own hands and was not justified to do so. The burgler was no threat to him.
This is about "property" not justified manslaughter or murder

I honestly think that this guy was trying to be a good neighbor!
The fact that he shot an intruder should be considered "self-defense" - what was the intruder doing there in the first place?
No I do not think that it was wrong and I do not think that he should have to go to jail - as for Texas - they have some pretty weird laws in that state. Texas is a little trigger happy - especially when it comes to the death penalty! I don't think we have resolved anything here Mr. Ed - so we will just have to keep up with the news! CJ

Killing them was wrong, helping out a neighbor was correct.
OK so here is something I was thinking. The man was 62 years old, so how steady were his nerves? The two men, where they on drugs? Did they have weapons? You don't know what went through this mans mind when this happened. Yes we can all put in our opinions but we never know what we would do in this situation. I feel for the gentleman because now he has to live with this. The two men who robbed the place didn't deserve death but they took a chance by robbing the house.

I think he should have called the police or cornered the man and held him there until the cops showed up. If he wanted to shoot a shot in the foot would stop someone from running. I think he killed the man if I remember correctly and he told the 911 operator that he was going to do it before he did it.
I think he was wrong. But then I don't feel sorry for the loser who broke into the home.

Didn't hear about that one but about 30 years ago or so, my older brother used to get the Handgun magazine and in the back they always had an interesting story. The stories had to be verified through the news or other places before they were printed. One story told about this guy in the Bronx who was sitting on his step trying to play a violin and making a Godawful racket. The guy next door yelled at him to quit but he kept playing. Guy next door takes a knife and stabs the violin player, didn't kill him though. Violin guy goes in gets his gun and shoots his neighbor dead. Then loads the body in his station wagon and takes him and dumps him in the East River, cops caught him and fined him for littering. Supposedly a true story, and seeing how it was New York, probably true too.

In Texas everyone walks around with guns anyway.
If they get in you house, they are not there to borrow sugar. It fair game and I have the means to take care of any vamint that trys. If in the house and you fear for your life, your in the right. But make sure he has one foot in the door, or your really in trouble. Do not go taking pot shots at the guy trying to steal you car outside unless he is about to take you out, then you are in the right.

cut and paste from the story:
A 61 year old man from Pasadena Texas shot and killed two burglars breaking into his neighbor's home.
Friday, Joe Horn told reporters the shooting will 'weigh heavily' on him. He also expressed sympathy for the families of the two men he killed.
Horn called 911 to report the men and when he saw the burglars leaving the house with stolen goods he took his gun and shot them dead. Click on related links to listen to the 911 Tape on the KTRK's website in Houston, Texas.

No, I don't think he was right to do that....better he got a good look at them for identification purposes; got a license tag # etc. and waited for police...now he has two deaths on his conscience and MAYBE some jail time.
This was a property and home invasion crime...no lives were in jeopardy...

I think the neighbor was wrong to shoot the people robbing the house next door. He, himself was not being threatened. The man had the dispatcher on the phone telling him not to shoot.
He had a description of the burglars,he should have let the police take care of it. Now there are at least four families hurt by his hasty decision.

Maybe the area was being robbed all the time. Sometimes people can only take so much, but still I think he was wrong.
