What a beautiful remembrance of your mother, Gin. Thanks.
No, growing up in my family was nothing like Beaver and Father knows Best. We had a very small frame home and if anyone had a two story home, they were considered wealthy. But, as far as kindness and goodness, my parents were definitely both kind and good.
I always felt those shows were misleading and made people who had less money feel inferior. But, on the other hand, I watched both shows and loved them; just never could understand why we couldn't have a home like that.

I parents were married 49 years when my mom passed but we weren't the Leave it to Beaver or Father knows best kind. My father was a truck driver and was gone all week and my mother worked outside the home.

My Dad has hurt me the most. He died five years ago. I did try to confront my Dad before he died. it was 6 years that we didn't talk. It seemed like everything was going very well and then about a year before he died I found out that he betrayed me. He lied to me just so that his new wife could see that he was a "good" Dad.. NOT! Well now that he has been gone for five years, I find that I wish I had at least confronted him (the second time) and told him exactly how I felt. You can't control how a person treats you, but you do have control over how you feel, and to me it's just not worth wondering if I could have forgiven him before he was gone. Now it's just too late and I'll always be left wondering!

Heck no! My family was more like every Lifetime special you could think of, eight siblings all of which fought over everything, it was the Brady Bunch only without all the sweetness. But it was fun and I enjoyed some of it.
Wouldn't trade those black eyes or fat lips from my brothers or sisters for any Leave it to Beaver moments.

My Dad was very much like Mr. Cleaver...with a bit of Father's Knows Best thrown in...and yes, My mom dressed the part of the 50's TV moms....I was an only child though so none of the 'drama' ever occured in our household..lol
My DAD kept the peace and when he was home, life was easy then :-)

Good Lord no! Was anyone's family really like that? My mom was the force in our home. She wore pants and shorts in the 50s, rarely a house dress. She kept a spotless home, but she didn't do it in high heels and pearls. My dad moved us all over the country. He was in construction and we went where the jobs were. Mom could make a home anywhere, under any circumstances.

No, it was more like World War III. My folks were always arguing and yelling at each other, only time they had a good laugh is after my Dad used the belt on me and my older brother. I always got whacked more cause I was bigger than my brother. I always said he was older he should have making sure I didn't do anything bad enough to get whacked. That didn't work either.

Yes. My home life was just like Leave it to Beaver. My mother always got drunk and passed out in the living room. My dad always came home around 4 in the morning and beat my mother out of bed so she would fix him some food.
