probably about a week and a half to two weeks ago, i found a tampon inside me that i guess i somehow forgot to take out? (don't ask me how, i'm not sure myself).
So anyhow, ever since then i've had whiteish/yellow discharge, sometimes chunky like cottage cheese. Also, it itches down there and sometimes burns when I pee. Could this be a serious problem? Is there anyway to get rid of this/anything I can buy without seeing my family doctor?
Can I go to planned parenthood to get this checked out?

You need to vaginal discharged is normal but if it is cottage cheese like it could be an std. I would get it checked out here is some d
White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: This is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: May happen right after periods, and is just "cleaning out" your vagina. Old blood looks brown.

Spotting Blood/Brown Discharge: This may occur when you are ovulating/mid-cycle. Sometimes early in pregnancy you may have spotting or a brownish discharge at the time your period would normally come. If you have spotting at the time of your normal period rather than your usual amount of flow, and you have had sex without using birth control, you should check a pregnancy test.

Is this normal?

We receive many questions about vaginal discharge through our "Ask the Expert" section. Below physician assistant Steven Johnson, explains what is normal and when to see a health care provider.

One of the challenges to answering questions sent into a health care Web site is making sure that the person asking the question seeks the advice and care from her doctor when appropriate. There is often information NOT given that can really change the answer.

For instance:
How old are you (really)?
Are you on medications or do you take herbs or vitamins?

Do you have pain or itching?

Are you pregnant?

Do you have other health problems (like diabetes)?

An important question is sexual activity. Sometimes it isn't accurate to simply say yes or no. Symptoms can depend on the number of sexual partners, kind of sexual partners, birth control, birth control failure, kind of sex you are having and if abuse is involved. I think you can see, it can get pretty complicated to get all the information needed to give the best answer possible.

With that said, here is my best answer to the common question of vaginal discharge.

A normal vaginal discharge consists of about a teaspoon (4 ML) a day that is white or transparent, thick to thin, and odorless. This is formed by the normal bacteria and fluids the vaginal cells put off. The discharge can be more noticeable at different times of the month depending on ovulation, menstrual flow, sexual activity and birth control.

It is not uncommon for the normal discharge to be dark, brown or discolored a day or two following the menstrual period.

If you are having ANY of the symptoms below SEE YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER.

Itching

Rash or sores alone or with a vaginal discharge

that's REALLY BAD! ever hear of Toxic Shock Syndrome? You can get that if you leave a tampon inside too long. Cottage cheese discharge & itches = yeast infection. Burns when you pee = urinary tract infection. See a doctor asap, I believe you can go to PP for that since they have gynecologists there.

That sounds like a yeast infection which is easily cured by an over the counter medication, but could also be a bacterial infection. Planned parenthood could definitely check it out. I also suggest you immediately start eating full yogurt cups with active cultures in it 1 or 2 times a day, to help fight the yeast.

Wellllll....at best its an infection at worst its TSS (which can occur if a tampon is left in for more than 8 hrs). Tss has flu like symtoms. You more than likely have additional bacteria growing in your vagina, just to add to the problem. we dont have a planned parent hood where i live so i dont know what that is but i know the health departments would look at it for free, and keep it completly confidential (no charges to your insurance or releasing info to anyone other that you). You can buy an at home kit that test for yeast infection or try an at home remedy like sitting in viniger or something. But the best thing you could do is go to the doctor because more than one thing could be going on here.
<3 & luck.

Hello, you def have a yeast infection. I recommend you go to a planned parenthood and have an exam. They can usually tell you right away. There are also over the counter creams and pills that cure it like Monistat. It should be gone within a week. Good Luck

It sounds like you have a yeast infection. If this is your first one it is recommended that you see a doctor for treatment. If not, you could go to any drug store and get Monistat. I prefer the 3-day treatment because the 1-day doesn't seem to work as well. Anyway, that should help you. Good luck and God bless!

Sounds like you are symptoms of a yeast infections.

The main symptom for a yeast infecton is itching, but you may have a white, thick discharge that resembles cottage cheese.

There are home treatments you can purchase a local drug store like Monistat. It can clear it up anywhere from 3-7days depending on which treatment you purchase

You can go to planned parenthood, or buy a home test from the closest drug store. It will be a test for all kinds of dieseases and problems that could be on there. if that doesnt tell you, id run to the ER, you may have TSS which kills a lot of women a year. Or it could make you infertile (never have kids) Please for your own sake get it checked asap. Thats not something to wait around to figure out!

You probably have a yeast infection. You will have to visit your doctor to be sure the first time you get one. I hate to disagree with the other posters, but you should not ever buy a treatment for yeast infections unless you have had one before and it has been diagnosed by a medical doctor.

Sounds like a yeast infection. You can get Monistat at a drug store or if you go to a planned parenthood and tell them what happened they can probably perscribe you diflican without an exam. I would recommend the diflucan because it works a lot faster and is less messy. Goodluck.
