Has anyone ever won who wasn't a running candidate?
You can vote for whomever you want, but I think that Gore has found a new passion outside of politics. I'm still deciding on who's the best candidate out of those running.
I wondered about Gore's approach to delivering his message on Global Warming and what to do about it, and how people accuse him of not practicing fully what he preaches (being a true greenie, living simply and modestly, etc.).
Then I was thinking that maybe (now watch him or supporters use this as a tactic) it's better that someone who's not so severe is used to be the messenger on global warming so that more would listen to him and be swayed thinking, "He's not the stereotypical granola nut job, and it doesn't look like I'd have to change my ways that much; maybe a lightbulb here, recycle there." Then notice how he's starting to say it takes a bit more than that, that's not enough. And keeps pushing the envelope a little at a time for those that are way over in the other consuming direction.... Rather than someone like "Living with Ed" star coming out and preaching.
Another thing is we should come to terms with that our consumerist society completely clashes with the green movement, and we'll have to make some big changes in order to compensate without sacrificing too much on our quality of living. There are self-sufficient green home designs out there, for example, that start at a million, and have to apply to building codes, etc. Alternative fuels are still being studied and we can't go jumping into other fuels that might be more harmful than good. There's a lot of work still to be done, if anything can be done really.
So back to the question -- why not support him as a leader of this cause -- why must he be president of this country, he can still do what he's doing -- maybe even better without politics as usual. And maybe he knows that even better than us because he's been there.

There is a website: http://www.draftgore.com/
Al doesn't want to run again. He has moved on with his life, promoting environmental issues, writing books and lecturing, winning Nobel prizes, participating in Academy Award winning movies and starting radio stations and working in community service.
One reason Al says he won't run is because he doesn't like how low the political campaigns can go. When the Bush junta went into their dirty tricks to steal the presidency after Gore won in Florida and the popular vote throughout the entire United States, he received death threats and lived through other scare tactics by the right.
I don't blame him. He is trying to promote environmentally sound practices and the right still can't leave him alone. The Right Wing nutjobs are jealous of his intelligence, and his success and can't stop themselves from trying to smear him. Obviously some answerers here listen to Rush and his envious drug addled lies.

I would love to see Al Gore run for president as an independent. That will split the liberal vote, and guarantee a Republican president!
Vote for Rudy!

No I would not vote for him. I think he is mentally unstable. I also do not lose sleep at night over global warming. The fact that this is the #1 issue for Al demonstrates to me that he is out of touch with reality. So many respected scientists who were once proponents of the theory humans were causing global warming are now changing their mind BASED ON DATA. Al should pay more attention but he is too busy politicizing science and thereby perverting the results of scientific inquiry.

I already did in 2000....and he did not gain the presidency...
so, I do not think he would have a chance of winning should he run....right or wrong, he is seen as the one who was defeated by Bush....and if he can't defeat Bush...can he really stand a chance against a candidate of intelligence?
