Hit delete or F1 or whatever button you use to go into the bios (setup) and then set the 1st boot drive to CD, exit and save reboot and it should boot from the CD so you can run the recovery.

Use the Windows XP disk and do a repair installation.

Here's how:

REPAIRING OR REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP

Turn your PC on and insert the Windows XP disk into the CD/DVD drive.

Reboot/restart the PC. This will cause the PC to boot from the XP disk and not the hard drive..

Allow the PC to run the boot up sequence. It will stop at a “black and white” screen and there will be an option to select a “repair” installation or a “full” installation.

NOTE:

If you simply want to repair/fix any and all corrupted and/or problem XP files select the “repair” option. This will only rewrite the XP files and will not affect any of your personal files or software on your PC.

If you want to Format the hard drive and rebuild it completely select the “full” installation option. Be aware that with this option you will “erase” all the files and software on that hard drive.

Select either the “repair” or “full” installation option and simply let the software run. Follow any onscreen prompts that may appear, especially during the “full” installation.

Hope this helps.

Since I dont know where the computer is failing, there could be a couple options:

1.)Your power supply. You said you have used the computer for awhile and nothing has happened, so this is unlikely, but if your power supply was going out, it could cause your computer to die. If it always kills at the same spot, this isn't the case.

2.)BIOS could be corrupted.

3.)Master Boot Record could be corrupted.

4.)HD could be corrupted, although this is also unlikely, since it wouldnt restart, it would just tell you you had no HDs in your computer.

there are a couple more options, but this is a fairly complex thing. you should probably just take it to a store to have it looked at.

Sometimes, when you lose your enhanced SATA drivers you can get a brief BSOD then a reboot which happens over and over. I worked on a rig that had corrupted SATA drivers and with AHCI turned on for the drive in bios it would do that. Only with the drive configured as IDE would it boot but then, of course, run very slow. Before you reinstall your OS try going into the bios and make sure your hard drive is configured right. If it is then try changing it to IDE and see if you can boot. If you can then you've lost your enhanced SATA drivers. Put them back in.

To much porn if you let your guy friends/cousins/family on. But if not then you probably encountered a virus through email. Happened to me once. Had to buy a completely new hard drive. Hard to find one for computers older than 2006.

my cousin watched porn on my aunts computer and gave it some super virus and she called Dell and they were able to get it to a point where the lady could take over and they restored the computer to its original self like brand new so if its a Dell try customer support
