Just before entering Viet Nam, or maybe Korea - that one's more a grey area. Kennedy lost Cuba, the poor, dead goof. The two problems with this nation are energy policy and family issues. They both result from an entitled, "me first" thing where we think just because some mostly dead old farts who have our undying gratitude for saving the world from oppression by two evil entities 50 years ago, we deserve to continue being all cushy and dependant on others for what we need to earn.

I mean, REALLY, do we still have the tactical advantage? We have technology, for sure, but we produce almost NOTHING, we aren't self sufficient, part of us wants to remain separate because photons spin at a different speed when they bounce off their skin... This is a WRECK.

When the nation in question is a democracy, it can change directions quite dramatically at each election. That's about every other year for America, for instance.

But, if you're talking about foreign policy, its a more difficult question. On the one hand, persuing a failed policy seems foolish, OTOH, changing policies frequently makes you seem shiftless and untrustworthy.

I agree with you completely that we should cut our losses and go in a new direction. Let's get rid of those who are bringing down our country, interfering in our lives, expanding government into areas not authorized by our constitution. In other words ....

Let's ELIMINATE ALL LIBERALS!!!! Execute all Democrats!! Eradicate ALL politicians who exceed the authority of the Constutition!!!

At no point with the greatest Military ever do you have losses.

Internally I don't see the losses, but that may just be my personal responsibility getting in the way.
