I'm applying for a school for the fine arts and I have a MAJOR passion for theatre. Thing is, is that I don't really have that much experience because I just started getting into this stuff 2 years ago. I've only been in 2 school productions and that's it. The college that I'm applying for requires an essay where I have to talk about my art form and my experiences and such...any ideas on what I should include?

wow we are identical. I only started theatre two years ago as well and have only done two shows. And I'm just now applying for fine arts schools. Crazy, I thought I was the only one.
what I talked about in my essay was just my passion. plain and simple. I told them that for me, acting is the study of life. It's the relationships, the motivations, the circumstances. It's about finding the humanity. to understand is the only way you can find anything beautiful. Acting provided the most compelling way to understand people because you have to learn about their circumstances, their personality, their past, their future. You learned to accept them as people, whether or not you agreed with their actions or beliefs. You thought of them as people. And that in itself is beautiful. Acting makes you put in the time to really understand. And that's why I love it.
so basically I just said why I was so passionate about it. You can tailor that concept to fit your own desire. I think the most important thing is to be honest. Sure I haven't had much experience in theatre, but I have a passion for it. Obviously, you had to have felt that theatre fit perfectly in your life, otherwise you would'nt be pursuing it. So tell them why you felt that way. I think it's more important for someone to have passion than experience. Experience can be made up. Passion can't.
If they don't feel passion is compelling enough to admit someone, then they don't deserve you.

Since your involvement with theatre is fairly new, a lot of things are probably fresh in your mind. That can help you write a strong essay. Tell them what attracted you to theatre in the first place and describe the satisfaction you get from your acting or directing or writing or costume and set designing or whatever specific theatrical work you've done. Describe what you've learned about the art and about yourself from the two shows you've done.
Theatre involves a lot of teamwork. Poets and painters and novelists fly solo, but anybody working in the theatre is collaborating with lots of other artists. Maybe you can share something about your experience from that perspective.
I'm sure your involvement with theatre extends beyond the productions you've done at school. You've probably read some plays and been to see some. Maybe you've taken acting or singing or dance lessons, or maybe you've read some biographies of famous actors or other books about the theatre. You can write about all those aspects of your passion for theatre.

You should include your ideas about Theatre (what do think of it and why) and your experiences (what they were and what you got out of them).
