pH is the negative logarithm of the molar concentration. If the concentration is not in molarity, convert it to M.

ph = - log [2.1 x 10^-5] = or - log 2.1 - log 10^-5

Anyway, the easiest way to solve is to change the negative exponent to positive. Thus, -5 becomes + 5. Then, find the log of 2.1. Subtract this from +5, or 5.0 - log 2.1 = pH = 5.00 - .32 or a final answer of 4.68 pH.

pH = -Log[H+]

Log 2.1 x 10^-5 = Log 2.1 + (-5) = 0.322 - 5 = -4.68

So pH = -(-4.68) = 4.68
