I have a $1700 dvd/nav system installed in the car along with 20" rims. Am I allowed to take that property back also? I'm in Kansas. Those items are expensive but are not going to increase the value at an auction.

for one no I didn't know they were coming to get it. I planned on being caught up this coming friday and the bank knew that but didn't seem to care. They are demanding the key since they don't have one well I can tell you they won't be gettting a key untill I get my stereo equipment and rims back. Those are not part of the car that I have the loan on so they have no right to keep it.

Contact the lender and ask permission. Ony way it'll happen. As a rule if it's "installed", it's not happening.

No way they are going to let you at the car to swap out rims.

I thought this was called ANSWERS not "let me take a stab at it".

There are a lot of misinformed people out there. I have repo'd cars for 20 years. A lot of folks on here really have no idea what they are talking about.

Gone By Dawn is correct with her answer. If it is attached, you have lost it. You can have any and everything that will come loose, but the stuff that is attached is considered part of the car and therefore it will go to the auction with the car.

Did you ever think that if you did not have a $1700 nav system and expensive rims installed, maybe you could have used that money to have made your monthly payments so the car would not have been repo'd.

Your property would be decrease back to you, the repo company is in charge, could lose their license in the event that they took your stuff. pass and talk with them, this finished difficulty could have been prevented in case you have been up front which contain your lender, and talked to them. with the help of ways a repo does not propose your economic criminal duty is over and which you're executed with the lender, observing the tilt quantity and what the motor vehicle would be wholesaled at you nonetheless owe the version plus each and every of the repo and storage expenditures.

My experience with having anything valuable in a car that is towed for any reason is it is never seen again.

When it comes to renting houses or other real estate, if you put in a fixture, it becomes the property of the landlord, you cannot just rip it out when you leave.

It very may well be looked on the same way by the courts that those items are considered fixtures in the car, you cannot remove them.

Quite simple, no. They will not take stuff off to let you have it back. If you knew the repo was coming you should have removed it before they took the unit.

It will not do anything for the auction price or what you will have to pay back, but the only attached thing that you can have back is the tags. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Anything "installed" on the car becomes part of it, and you don't get it back after a repo.

Any personal property that's "in" the car, you are entitled to get back, but the repo guys can charge you an access fee to get it.

My understanding is if it is permanently installed (rims) that you can't have those, they are now part of the car.

The dvd/nav system you should be able to take, but odds are the tow yard already took them.

Good luck

You are entitled to retrieve your personal property. The lender is only allowed to keep the car, not what belongs to you personally in the car. Unfortunately, you may run into the problem we did, the tow company charged us a fee to get back our personal property. You are also entitled to keep your license plates.

I think so. Contact the repo company and let them know you want your personal items. They will probably refer you back to the lender and they should make arrangements to pick up the items...you will probably need to give back the old rims...if you don't have them...you're out of luck.
