My (crazy) husband says I am addicted to towels. He thinks we have too many.
We have a set of one year old bath towels (4), hand towels (2), and wash cloths (6). We also have a four year old set of the same. And a set that my mother gave us five years ago, which are ugly. Theres also some really old ones from my previous marriage (11 years ago) and college (18 years ago). I just bought two new bath towels and two hand towels.
Our household consists of myself, my husband (crazy), and our 3 yr old. We are about to get a dog, the reason I think we need new towels to replace the oldest towels soon to be demoted to dog status.

If you want new towels, throw out the old ones.
Problem solved.

LOL Cute question! I think you should definitely use the oldest towels for the dog, and then toss them. The other two sets sound just about right! Nothing wrong with having spare towels around, as long as they're in good shape.

I'm still using the towels I got 15 years ago for a wedding present (ex husband now; crazy and gay). It doesn't sound like you have too many. Tell him that you'll throw some of them out if he'll start doing the laundry.

Given all the questions you ask about them, you just might be addicted to towels. But, you can never have too many. And you seem to know how the older ones should be treated.

I have like a hundred towels. Seriously, I wont throw any of them away and I still get new ones. Every summer I get new beach towels and they end up in the bathroom closet. I swear, I have too many towels but we never have to look for one. Right??

I have a thing for dishes. If you have a thing for towels, go for it. If you can fit all your towels in your world, be happy. We just demoted a lot of our towels to dog status, too, so you definitely need those for wet days.

If you can afford new towels and you want them then go buy yourself some new towels.
If your towels won't fit in your linen closet, you have too many.
If you can't go more than two or three days without doing laundry then you don't have enough towels.
Hope that helps.

Lol. I have like 40 towels. If you use them, I don't think you can have too many. After all, having more than you need is better than having less than you need.

For your family of three, washing every week, I think you need:
9 bath towels for you per week
7 bath towels for your husband
7 bath towels for your three yr old
7 fingertip towels for each bathroom (clean one each day)
42 wash cloths for each of you to wash your face am & pm
2 full bath sets for guests
Any extra to decorate the bathroom.
14 kitchen towels:
2 per day - one for clean dishes & one for handwashing
about 7 dish rags
and maybe 12-20 rags!
Hope this helps!
Joy to you!
