yes you can. But before you format go to Sony and download all the XP drivers for your PC and burn them to a CD that way when your up and running XP and it wants a sound of modem or other driver you have it ready to go, This is important because the wireless will not work until you install the drivers for it, so after you go to XP you can't go to the Internet and get the drivers.

You CAN re-install Vista with no problem. The hard part is getting Vista off your laptop to begin with. We worked for hours, with many years experience in doing this, and Vista would not leave! IF the laptop drive is SATA, you should be able to hook it up to a SATA port and format it from there, but you can't format it successfully while it is in your laptop.
Good Luck!!

You wont get XP on it, this model has no proper XP drivers from Sony, you can search for third party ones but I doubt you can make the wohle thing work.

As to Vista back on, yes the restore CD you have will so it, but as its a one way street, you might as well stick to Vista as this seems like your only option.

im not too sure but if you format you are removing everything so you can install what you like time and time again afterwards.
