Fat men, skinny women?

I had a day off yesterday--finally--so I decided to lounge around in my jammies and catch up on all of my favorite shows my DVR recorded for me while working my butt off the last 3 weeks straight. I noticed something in these shows--

Married couples are mostly heavy men and thin women--not always, but mostly. Still Standing. The Simpsons. Family Guy--among others. Why is this? Why aren't there heavy women with thin men? Is this some sort of observation of how life is in the US? That heavy women can't even get the heavy men?

I know this isn't true in all cases of sitcoms--maybe it was just something I noticed because it happened to be the case in the three I ended up watching yesterday one right after the other. But is there some reason for this?

My perception is that people typically marry when they are younger meaning both are thin or of average build. Has they hit there thirties and forties it is usually the guy that gets heavier faster. If that doesn't work for you then I will use the sexist comment, "Once married, guys can get fat because they have no one to impress while a women has to stay thin to keep her man faithful."

It is TV. This is not reality. The Simpsons and Family Guy are cartoons and Still Standing or King of queens have been cancelled. This trend would lead you to believe that this is not the reality in America.

Yes, heavier men end up with gorgeous skinny women. The stereotype that you are noticing however is not "fat men and skinny women" in general. These are fat FUNNY men and the thin beuatiful women who love them. The point behind this is that beauty is not skin deep. Maybe you need to see the same point that is being made there.

As a side note, I know of plenty of heavier women who have married men who are skinnier than they are. As a person ages and matures, they tend to see beyond a person's physical appearance and/or weight to see the wonderful person that lies beneath.

Thus the point of all the shows you mentioned. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

it depends on the guy some like skinny some like thick and some like fat im a skinny girl i just went from a size 0 to 3 my exs like skinny girls and since i got bigger 1 called me fat which at a size 3 obviously im not but honestly i think it depends on the guy i think all girls are in all of the time no matter how skinny or big

This is why I don't watch sitcoms. They stereotype people way too much and rely too much on certain formulas such as adding children when those already on the show outgrow their cuteness and they always seem to have the annoying neighbor who bursts in at the most inopportune times.

It's TV - it's a stereotype of the culture. It's as close to the truth as Disneyworld is to normal human life. Don't sweat, it doesn't mean a thing.

if you ask me it's a media preception saying that you can be fat and still have a hot wife so it's ok to sit there and watch this all day instead of going to the gym.

My wife weights almost the exact same as I do, except she's a little shorter, so she looks bigger than me.

It isn't true in all cases.

Well, it's more funny this way. On sitcoms he's always a lucky sun of a gun who is lucky to have her. There's also King of Queens :)

In our case it is fat man (620) with fat woman (300) and we both love being this way and love each other this way. Each of us who is large makes our own choices.
