Look for a vista laptop and if you can buy extra ram, etc. make sure the one you get has a good amount of ram no less than 1 gigabyte (like mine). it should cost less than 1000 dollars if its cheap. (Cheapest ive seen is 400....or was it 300). If you dont get a vista youll be lost in the times by the year 2010 when xp will go out of date. Plus many programs only work on the vista now. Ram costs anywhere from 50 to 200 dollars

Apple products are comparable with pc. The pc is lower priced, but then you have the software that still needs to be paid for.
Every Mac comes with iLife, software that transforms your photos, music, video, make high-quality websites, photo books, DVDs, songs, slideshows, music CDs, calendars, cards, prints, podcasts, music videos, documentaries, etc…
If you want to use windows, you have that ability. Microsoft's Windows operating system software runs on the Macbook pro.
Simplicity vs. complexity.
That’s the fundamental difference between Macs and PCs.

Sounds like you want it for basic use :) If you dont want gaming, but some added music and dvd features. I would go with HP. I work at best buy geek squad and recommend that. Do not go with dell AND MAKE SURE TO GET THAT WARRANTY AND SERVICE PLAN!! This will save you a lot of time and money in the future. Computers tend to break down :(/. But i recommend HP, Toshiba computers. Happy shopping! Oh and DELL is horrible in service-they are dying.
Oh and MACs... They are overpriced for what they are and for what you need. Go with a cheaper hp or toshiba. Apple/ Mac products are over rated and over priced. After reading Consumer Reports, they said MACS have the most repairs ans issues stated on their website and magazine.

Hi
I'll join the crowd and urge you to get a Mac. In addition to the things already mentioned, Mac OS comes with Apache web server built-in.

You wont locate an IBM/Lenovo for that low fee, yet you won't want some thing that best end. Dell is remarkable selection. For the money the kit is robust and you get alot on your funds. in case you dont intend to circulate it around alot, circulate with a workstation. They dont carry thier fee as reliable, yet they're greater low fee to enhance and restoration.

if you travel and give presentation as an instructor or technical advisor, I would recomend the new Dell XPS 13 inches with MS office 2007 and MS Share point . The laptom is very mobile and MS office plays along well with vista.
