Now that smoking has been banned in most enclosed public places and all places of work, has that made you more honest to yourself about the real reason you started smoking?

Do you now accept it as a character flaw?

Since society has made it clear that it does not admire your habit, will you finally admit to yourself that the real reason you started smoking was to be admired? (for being hard, or cool, or rebellious, or thin).

Do you feel like even more of a rebel now that you have to "sneak out the back for a quick suck off a f4g"? (Note to Yahoo - f4g is British slang for cigarette).

Since you can't smoke in public, do you subject your children to even more passive smoke at home? Doesn't that make you feel guilty, or does it make you feel like even more of a hero?

Yes, I am aware that f4g also refers to a younger boy who performs tasks for older boys at Public schools. It can also refer to the task itself, and even the performance of said task.

Using it as subject, verb and object in the same sentence, however, for example "the f4g fagged the f4g for the head boy", will make you sound like some kind of mutant smurf.

I started smoking because people I hung out with did, I won't lie about that.

It's not a character flaw to be a smoker, everybody does something that is not good for them every day and they are not flawed.

I honestly don't give a rat's fuzzy lil backside what society thinks of my smoking.

Theres nothing rebellious about smoking, I am an adult, I do what I want

I can smoke in public, just not indoors. I only have step kids, and I do not smoke around them, EVER.

It's awfully magnanimous of you to make it your mission to rid the world of smokers, but perhaps you will have better chances in trying to control the weather.

FYI... Alcohol kills more than twice as many people annually than cigarettes and related disease. Why isn't anyone all over their cases?

i began smoking after a bad crash having to sit around doing nothing all day was so boring i brought a packet of cigs
no i dont accept it as a character flaw
nope i dont feel a rebel i dont have to sneak out
i do smoke in public have you seen the mass clouds of smoke outside the pubs these days and noticed the obnoxius smells inside the pubs
and since i have no children i smoke at home
so it doesnt make me feel guilty nor a hero

btw your wrong about the f word
it means
act as a servant for older boys, in British public schools
you didnt check did you
so now you can climb off your soap box

I originally started as it looked cool, they say that it is a antisocial habit but i think since the ban it has made it more social even non-smokers have started going outside with thier friends to be part of the crowd, and as smoking in the house goes I dont do it have you ever seen the mess it makes of your walls?

I started smoking when I was 14 years old. I started because of peer pressure and I thought I looked kool. What a joke. One of my best friends had a tumor in his throat right now and it doesn't look very promising at all. My heart aches for him so much I could cut my throat !!! Fortunately for me I quit 3 years ago. My husband quit 7 years ago. And my daughter and her boyfriend quit over a year ago !!!! I can't believe I spent 36 years looking ridiculous and being a fool !!!!! Good question !!!!!

i started smoking again when my sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer..i took care of her and couldn't take the stress..so i smoked. her cancer had nothing to do with smoking. i never smoked anywhere around people who didn't smoke. she died in april and i quit smoking on Thanksgiving...i think i smoked alot because i felt guilty that i was older and she was the one dying...she had children and i didn't ...i think i wished the cigarettes would kill me and i wouldn't have to deal with it all. i only quit because my family was worried too much about it.i don't feel like i was trying to be rebellious...at 48, it's more about being old enough to make my own decisions about my life.even bad ones

Peer pressure, I was 11, I gave up when I was 16.
I feel very strongly about people who smoke, especially around children.

I started smoking when I was 16 at cheerleading camp. I felt so cool and sexy when I did it. I've been smoking for 8 yrs and still don't regret it like most people. Misty menthol lights please :)

I started smoking because I thought I was cool, and that it would get me a load of respect from people whose opinions mattered. I was wrong.
