it is actually. Its just like a cold virus...your body can fight it off but not always. The surest way to get it is by having unprotected anal intercourse. What happens is the semen infected fall into the rectum and the rectum's job is to sqeeze out the final nutrients of feces directly into the blood stream as opposed to vaginal intercourse in which the chances become more probable when skin tears or the egg is fertilized. The transition between HIV and AIDS is also reduced with all the new medicines. whats hard to beleive about the poster?

As I am that poster, yes, I agree 100%.
You can only get it through the exchange of bodily fluids.
On average, how many times per day do YOU exchange fluids with someone else?

It is for a heterosexual male , it is much easily transferred from an infected male to a female. The exchanging of fluids being the key factor. Sharing needles is obviously a good way to transmit it, as well as anal sex because the blood vessels are close to the skin in the rectum and can easily be breached and bleed.

I'd have to agree with that poster. Look at the numbers and see for yourself:
Total people with AIDS in US (2005): 952,629
# from gay sex and IV drug use: 759,356
# from high risk heterosexual sex (Heterosexual contact with a person known to have, or to be at high risk for, HIV infection, i.e. Prostitutes) 163,609
Other: 29,664
2005 US Population: approx. 290,000,000
So that means that if you're not gay, an IV drug user, or are a prostitute or have sex with prostitutes you have a about a 0.01% chance of getting AIDS.
And even if you are gay, an IV drug user, or prostitue you have a 0.33% chance of getting AIDS.
So yes I'd say it is VERY difficult to get AIDS. I just proved it.

Compared to most diseases, it is not easy to get HIV. The stuff dies when it comes in contact with oxygen, making it an ineffective airborne pathogen. It must be contained in some bodily secretion, such as blood, sweat or saliva. Good sanitation is usually enough to prevent it.
Remember: HIV is the disease, AIDS is a syndrome, really it is the condition or scenario brought on by a full blown HIV infection.

You don't get "AIDS." AIDS is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is caused by a virus, HIV. And another poster has already said it. It's as easy as having unprotected sex with an infected partner. HIV is a virus and it doesn't care about your sexual orientation.

I cannot think of a time when I've agreed with that poster about anything.
To suggest the difficulty in getting HIV or AIDS, or to call them stupid or ignorant is to further stigmatize people who get it. I find it interesting to see the Liberals here doing this very thing.

Syphillis, Chlamydia, Gonorhea, etc are classed as "venereal diseases", so called because it so difficult to transmit them, you have to be as close as two CAN be to each other get them (HPV herpes etc as well)
It is NOT as difficult to get HIV, the virus which can cause AIDS. People have gotten the virus from blood transfusions, organ transplants, etc. AIDS isn't just the demon of gay men or prostitutes anymore.
Teenage HIV infections are on the rise. Are THEY all gay men and hookers?
"CSI" had a story on once, this guy murdered a girl who had AIDS, when he cut her throat the blood sprayed up into his eyes, infecting him immediately.

Yes. I mean if you don't engage in risky behavior, like sharing needles. And use condoms, and have your partner tested before engaging in risky activities, then it is very difficult to get AIDS. Its like saying it is difficult to get struck by lightning. Obviously if you stand in a storm with a golf club, that difficulty goes away.
