Vincent Lecavalier is 27+ years old and has 555 points in his NHL career.
Sidney Crosby is 20 years old and has 262 points in his NHL career.

They both started their careers as 18 year olds.

My question is- How old will Sidney Crosby be when he reaches the level of points that Lecavalier has now (555)???

I know Lecavalier has done some amazing things in his career like making the cover of EA Sports NHL video game in 2006 but really, isn't it like apples and oranges?

Great answers by the first 3 contestants. Read the question, answer the question, not that hard.

BTW, thanks for joining our fantasy league and then totally ignoring your roster.

BTW, Vinny is a -54 in his career, Crosby is a +15, I don't put much stock in the stat but I could amend the question to include, at what age does Sidney reach the -54 mark, although it wouldn't make sense. He'll never be a minus player.

Yellow Pepper- Congrats with that. It wasn't me.

2007-12-11 06:09:40 · update #7

Voluntary- More character? How? By holding out on the start of a season for contract purposes? For clashing with his coach all the time because the coach wanted accountability? Or was it because of the whole stripping him of his captaincy?

Haley, I am not asking it to get at something else. It is a continuation of an earlier question. I don't know, Crosby is the reigning Hart and Pearson winner, until Lecavalier takes that honor, I think it is still Sid, very close though, Lecavalier has had an amazing start to the season no doubt but TB is in 12th place in spite of it. IMO, Crosby will still put up the better numbers, even this year.

2007-12-11 06:18:57 · update #9

No Dirt- Good point and one I thought of when posting. Thought about doing it in games to avoid this-Lecavalier has played in 659, Crosby in 189.

2007-12-11 06:22:02 · update #10

So, you can just say how many games he will reach 555 points in.

2007-12-11 06:22:44 · update #11

Haley, big difference in 27 years old and 22 or 23 years old, don't you think?

2007-12-11 06:23:58 · update #12

I think the average Goals per Game in the NHL is about 5.5 this year, about the same as it was in 2000. There was a spike in goal scoring the first year back after the lock-out when players were adjusting to the rules. Crosby had 102 points that year as an 18 year old, Lecavalier had 75 as a 25 year old.

2007-12-11 06:34:35 · update #13

Haley- Had not even seen the article, thanks for the link. I kepp hearing over and over, "Pat Burns thinks so." I must have seen that referenced in 50 articles over the last year.
I am not even saying that Lecavalier isn't as good as Crosby right now, pretty even I think, my point is that it is apples and oranges because he is 7 years older.

2007-12-11 06:38:54 · update #14

Got derision AKA Jude always makes a valid point. I am not being sarcastic in saying that.
St.Louis has a prettier mantle than Lecavalier- a Hart, a Pearson, and an Art Ross sits on his shelf at least.
The best player in the NHL, especially one who has been there for 10 years would have to have one of these awards. Even if you take stats out of the equation- Pearson is the best as deemed by fellow players. Where is his Pearson, proclaiming him as the best player? I guess Torterello (his own coach), Pat Burns (can't even get a job) don't get to vote. Oh well, at least he has Kubina's vote.

Lecavalier without St. Louis????? 100 points tops.

Crosby with anyone?????? 100 points minimum.

I liked Neely much better than Gretzky too, its OK to like players more, but that doesn't make them better.

You can sign me up for that Loblaw fan club, most of the rest of you are jellyfish. Steve Moore has more of a backbone than the clique members on here.

Bob, are trying to ruffle my feathers?

I read your question, pumpkin, but you have a way of asking something, to get at something else. Yes, I already know what you are thinking, my dear. Crosby will have a more successful career than Vinny. I think right now (today) Vinny is a better player. Just my opinion, so don't come back and say this is the worst answer you have ever seen, or that I have never seen a hockey game, or that I should stop coming on here. *cough**deep breath*
I would say Crosby hits 555 by the time he is 22 or 23.

I think I am going to make a members list for the Bob Fan
Club.

EDIT: Yes, I do think that is a big difference. Crosby will go down as a better player, because he will be a better player, in the long run. I will not argue that with you. I can't see why anyone, even Vinny, would think that his career would be better that Sid's career as a player. Is this the story that got your blood boiling?

Edit: Alright.....apples and oranges. Can Vinny be the apple? I like apples better. ;)

It's already been said, but I think it will be 22 or 23, as well...

But cripes, people... Mouthing off to the coach is NOT a positive show of character, and that kind of character is NOT an asset to a team. A good player-coach rapport is important... Especially the rapport between the coach and the LEADER of the team. I understand that it had a lot to do with Vincent Lecavalier being a passionate young man. That kind of raw anger, just like raw talent, has to be harnessed positively. If anything, I think being stripped of the C may have helped his character. I'm sure he learned some things about respect, self-control, and responsibility.

Now, now, I like Lecavalier. I think he's grown into a tremendous person, player, and leader.

I just like Sid more. Mr. Fly got it right though, a preference for one player over another doesn't mean that the one preferred is the better player.

Hmmm, this Crosby Lecavalier battle is getting a bit too out of hand with some people (not refering to you or anything but there atleast a question every hour about them)

But I'd say when he's like oh, what....22 years old. Maybe 23. It would take too long.

I do believe that Lecavalier is a truly amazing player! But this is a biased opinion, and I like Sid more.
I think he just has more potential to him.

How many point did Lecavalier have when he was 20? Just wondering to compare it to Sid's...

I say Sidney Crosby reaches 555 by the time season five rolls around, at which he is 22. There is a 150+ point season in his immediate future (provided he is paired with a dynamic winger...sound familiar).

One more point about Crosby getting to Lecavalier's point total: Points Per Game. As no dirt pointed out, Lecavalier isn't even a ppg player! Barring illness, injury, or lack of desire, Crosby should have Lecavalier's totals well into his fifth season (again, provided there is a 150+ point season next season or the following campaign).

I wasn't going to chime in, but I have to ask - How does Lecavalier have more "class" than Crosby? I understand that Crosby was a bit of a whiner during his rookie season, but does that really make him classless? When I see him on the ice - and off - he seems plenty classy to me.

I'd guess that Crosby reaches the 555-point mark at age 23. And I'd take crosby over Vinnie any day of the week, regardless of what some might believe about who is the better all-around player. Whatever defensive shortcomings Crosby might have - and I believe they're sometimes overstated - he more than makes up for in the other end.

I would still pick Vinny Lecavalier over Sidney Crosby. Vinny is a much better defensive forward. He has more class than Sidney. If Vinny played in Montreal he would be a god. By the way, Sidney should match Vinny at age 23.

Bob it's been kinda tough to keep up. I am pregnant and going through all the fun stuff with that.

It's sorta hard to compare stats though. You have to remember they are making the NHL a scoring league. They keep eliminating a lot of defensive play. I.E. the new standard of play, the trapazoid rules, moving the blue line back, and the penalty for throwing the puck over the glass in your defensive zone. All of these rules took away from the defensive players arsenal making it easier for the offense to score.
I'm not saying that Crosby wouldn't have more points, I bet he would even in the old NHL, but it's still not a fair comparision. And btw, I say I'd take Lecavalier. Crosbys over rated.

"I'd take Vinny any day. When he wrapped it up with Iginla a few years ago, he sealed his fate with me- the boy rocks:

i will agree with this above statement!

I love Lecalvier... he's amazing and sure Crosby will catch up... eventually but no matter what is till think that Lecalvier has more character than Crosby does. and they both are very talented...

I guess we just have to give Crosby a chance to get in the swing of things... anyways... Lecalvier is still my vote..

The way Crosby is going he will reach 555 points at about 23 maybe 24.. if he keeps up the good work

EDIT: Lecalvier has always showed good character in his NHL career... Sure he goes against coach regulation sometimes... and he disagrees in an unkindly manner most often... but that creates what charatcer he has. And Lecalvier will walk away with a few awards this year! Im almost certain!

Lets just hope this doesnt come back in my face lol

The Wizard of Croz will be approximately 23 years, 7 months, 2 weeks, 1 day, 11 hours 34 minutes, and 27 seconds old when he eclipses the 555 point mark.
Please keep in mind that this is just a rough estimation, and in no way should be used to gamble with, or otherwise perpetrate monies from unsuspecting peoples.

Most teams have a guy who gets the gears no matter what (even if he's in the lineup or not). NYR fans will be chanting "Potvin Sucks" until everyone here is tree food and have been doing so for 30+ years. Accept and move on. It's part of the game. When Gretzky broke into the league there was a huge perception that he was a whiner. This was before 24-hour coverage, the intenet, and the like. In these parts, Kerry Fraser is still a blind idiot for the no-call in 1993 for Gretzky's high stick on Gilmour (and will be infinitum), and I can think of at least a dozen players who are still hated and will be hated.
