It must be something in the water! Another of my co-workers is pregnant and her husband is insisting that they name their child (if a boy) Clyde. Robert will be the middle name no matter what the first name is. What do you think? Please give the reasons as to your opinion. I'm going to show this to Mommy and her Hubby.
BTW, they already have a son named Calvin Ray.

They really aren't going for the CR thing. Robert is her dad's name and Clyde is the name her husband really wants. He thinks it's "cool". Other names with different starting letters would definately be considered.

Not a fan at all. Really, there are so many strong male names that don't remind you of a horse, or a clumsy guy, or a farmer. I think the boy would be teased and would most likely grow up asking his parents why the heck did you name me that??? I can't think of any positive thoughts associated with the name Clyde.

Even if this is a family name or there is some other personal reason, they should consider using it as a middle name instead.

By the way, what is the Mom's opinion? If she doesn't like it just as much as the Dad then they definately should NOT name the child Clyde. They should both agree and love the name.

Good Luck

I'm afraid "Clyde" ain't cool!
Sorry but that is as bad as Egbert or Wilfred in the cool stakes. Robert is fine but they need to rethink that first name. What about Charlie for a C name? Or perhaps something more meaningful from the family tree?

I mean if Clyde is a name that really means something to them, than I think of course they should name him that...but if not, than maybe tell them to keep looking for names. I just can't see a little boy being called Clyde, is there even anyway to shorten it...and what about as a teenager?? If they are trying to keep the whole C.R thing going here are maybe some suggestions:

Conner
Caleb
Conley
Carter
Corbett

Richard is another possibility for a middle name...Best of luck to them!

Clyde is only cool if you're naming him after the famous bb player. Otherwise, Clyde is an outdated name that reminds me of a farmer wrestling with his stubborn donkey. (I know the story is weird). Anyway, I would never name my kid Clyde unless there was a family connection or a historical connection.

I love "C" names! I'm not a big fan of Clyde how about...

Chase Robert- think this one sounds best
Conrad Robert
Colton Robert
Chad Robert

Those are actually my brothers first names. hahaha... but I really like them. Wish I could use those names on my own children.

"Left turn...!"

I think Clyde's pretty dismal. I also think giving them the same initials is a recipe for sibling fistfights over whose stuff (and mail!) is which.

What about something else to go with Robert? Dylan? Eamonn? James? Paul?

What about Kurt or Karl? or Kieron? That'd "match" phonetically if that's what they really want

um..... it sounds like something that will end up in the newspapers some day....

Today Clyde Robert Smith walked up the bell tower....

Will they call him Clyde? or Robert? because C. Robert Smith is a different name entirely.

Is Clyde a family name?

I like it! I've never known a Clyde and I think it is a very classy, strong male name. It is unusual and not common these days, so I say go for it!! I'm in California so I don't get all those horse/cowboy references...so I guess if you're in a midwestern state you may want to reconsider...??

No offense, honey, BUT, Clyde is a name that will ensure he gets picked on at school . He will come home from school in tears. Your co-worker wouldn't want this for her child, I'm sure. There are so many other names,[that start with a "C"] that she could choose from; Charles,Casey,Corbin, Christian, Caleb,Connor,Chase,...

Clyde? um...Honestly, I don't like it at all. It makes me think of those huge smelly horses they have walking around town during the fair - the CLYDESDALES. I wouldn't name my kid that, but if that's what they like then you should support them.
Calvin Ray isn't as bad, but if they like the "CR" kind of thing, see if they like these:
Cuyler (pronounced ky-lar) Robert
Conley Rainer
Coen Ryder
Caleb Ryland
Caden River
