What do you mean exactly when you ask the question "why african americans are blck?"?
African-Americans do not come in ONE color, ONE look, or ONE kind of physical feature just like every other race does not ALL look the exact same within their group. Like ALL THE OTHER RACES, we are of varying looks, complexions, hair textures, and physical features. There are African-Americans who are a yellow complexion, some who are varying shades of brown, some who are "ivory" or peaches & cream complection with a mixed bag of physical features and hair textures accompanying it.
Even all Africans do not look one way and one way ALONE. They are also a variety of shades and physical features.
Do you get the picture?
I am Black and I am fair with yellow in my skin: http://www.flickr.com/photos/retro_rose/1456803347/
(Me with my Mom)
I have a fairskinned Black Mom and a White Dad. In my Mother's family, there are Black relatives who are a variety of colors, looks, and physical features. One great-aunt was a golden yellow complection, my great-grandmother was dark brown with strong Indian features, my grandpa was a deep brown with coarse Black hair and somewhat French features, a cousin of mine is of Black and Japanese mixedblood and she looks totally Japanese in features and color but with brown coarse straight hair. Another cousin of mine was a light-yellow complexion with brown wavy hair and another aunt was mahogany color with slanted eyes.
YET--every single one of these family members have considered themselves nothing other than Black.
Picture gettin' clearer for you?

"black" and "brown" "yellow" and "white"--African Americans come in ALL colors thanks to the ONE DROP RULE. One drop of black blood makes you black. It's still accepted by most blacks and mulattoes AND whites.
These are ALL African Americans:
