They didn't have The Star and People magazine and CNN and Fox and Drudge back then. In those days, there was actually an element of privacy about one's personal life.

However, that being said, I don't expect a politician to be chaste and holy, but I do expect more of them than I do my next-door neighbor. I would like to think that we are electing into leadership positions the best we have to offer as a nation. Are adulterers and slanderers the best we have to offer?

I think the media and political activists have gone nuts. I dont want a liar or thief in there but we've all made mistakes. I know I probably wouldnt run for office above the state legislature because little things like under the table loans from family members which get paid back (stuff WE ALL do) would be discovered somehow and then you get charged with a crime and so forth and it is just insanity. Of course the truth is that the research isnt about ensuring someone isnt a total dirtbag, its about making them LOOK LIKE ONE and thats were we've gone wrong

Would you want a person representing you that you feel is beneath your moral standards. You want people that you can trust representing you on issues that matter to you. For me personally I don't care if a politician cheats on his spouse but I have a very different view on marriage then most people. I guarantee though if I found a candidate is using tax payer money to support his other flings I would be outraged. Even more American society is still built upon Christian values and people expect politicians, people with power, to be of higher ground then them.

Think about it. I'm not saying holy and chaste, but would you rather elect the gambling drunk next door to run your company, or the college graduate with the nice suit and the experience? We elect the man that serves as the spokesman for our country as a whole.

I don't expect that from politicians, I'd rather have a real man representing me than an altar boy. Probably has something to do with getting women's and old people's votes.

Good question. I don't. I could give a crud if the President was chaste if they did a good job.

Yeah it affected his president, but for better or worse I can't say.

These are our leaders, we'd like to think they're the best we have to offer, alas they are only as worthwhile as we are.

We need someone who can do the job, not get mired in scandals. Plus they do not need to have anything that could be used to blackmail them. They don't have to be pure, but they need to live clean enough so they don't get distracted from doing their job.

Not holy and chaste. Honest and forthright though.
