The first Egyptians were a separate group - these are the people who invented math and built the pyramids. After Alexander the Great captured Egypt Greeks created a colony and ruled from Alexandria (Graeco-Roman Egypt). Cleopatra was the last of Greek ruler, after that it was the Romans. The ethnic Egyptians didn't interact much with the Greeks and Romans and since the 1950s rule themselves again. One hopes they will be able to invent something cool like math again.

Well Egypt is in North Africa as another answerer said and it is possible that they were black. However it because of the region it is also highly likely they were what we call Mediterranean. This means they would have dark hair, dark olive toned skin but not black more like a Isreali or Saudi Arabian today. Of course this would the norm but not exculsivlely.
