Oh there's so many good one's already....
I always hate the one " So what do YOU DO?
I always seem to get that from people and it just bloody well annoys me! when it comes from my Mother's friends I just lie and say "Oh I work at the Public Library " which I do but I volenteer. When People I don't know do it, there is still the stigma of the Housewife.... Drat them!! We've started to say I'm a Kept Otter. That takes them aback.....

I hate the what do you do for a living too... Even though, and especially because, it is a socially accepted, very usual question to ask. Our careers are typically what define us and are used by people to tell where to place you on their mental social heirarchy. I have felt awkward when answering in both situations; when I was ashamed of my job I felt lower than the asker, and when I was proud of my job I felt awkward about it too. Ugh. I think it really applies more to women because when you have children whether you're working or not there are people (men especially which I think is the whackiest thing) who will think you are wrong- and these people will say it to your face or behind your back but it hurts either way. On the same line as this I think people should not ask where you live.

Never ask a child "And how old are you?" ~ almost certain to get a retort about *your* age!

I don't know what it's like in the US, but here in the UK 'Housewives' don't get the respect many of them deserve, and they are still penalised where taxes are concerned.

You don't ask them about their sexual orientation, and you don't start giving them advice. Some idiotic people just this sort of thing.
