My aunt is turing 62, in June 2008, is it best that she file 6 month before she turn 62 years, or should she wait until she is 62 to file
we were told that it is better to file 6 month early so you can get your check on time, you know the month you turn 62 and and the reducingtion of the 30% and no more than that. I also was told that the longer you waite after 62 years the rate goes up 2 to 4 % like if you are going to get 700.00 dollars at 62. if you are 62 and three months you will get 712.00 how true are these statment, do any one know, and yes we are going to call the social security board, we just want to know what someone else thinks.

I would say yes to filing as soon as possible depending on when you want to receive your check. The government takes a while to process things.

As a general rule, early retirement will give you about the same total Social Security benefits over your lifetime, but in smaller amounts to take into account the longer period you will receive them.

There are advantages and disadvantages to taking your benefit before your full retirement age. The advantage is that you collect benefits for a longer period of time. The disadvantage is your benefit is permanently reduced
