That the rape storyline on Days is so much like the one on OLTL with the rape on Marty by Todd and the two frat guys? I forgot their names. I do and ask why do they need to repeat storylines from other soaps? Can't they come up with their own storylines?

Yes, it is very similar! It was Todd, Powell and Zach!

Well I do not watch OLTL and so have completely missed this storyline if Days had not done it. But you are right, many of the soaps even on the same network do the same story lines one right after the other. Well they probably see how popular that particular storyline is and want those kinds of responses to their soap.

Soaps thrive on stock plots -- the amnesiac, the rising from the dead, the evil twins, etc. Stuff like that is a soap opera's bread and butter. What makes it worth watching is when they make it character-centered rather than plot-centered. It's supposed to be naturally different each time, because every character is different and will act/react differently than the characters involved in the last go-around.

...Unless your soap is written by Bob Guza, in which case you may as well be watching reruns.

I noticed the same thing. One of the guys was Viki's nephew. Lots of the soaps use the same storylines...makes you wonder why they can't find any new ideas that haven't been used over and over again for years.

Soap operas recycle story lines of other soaps all of the time.
