Doubt it, Chevy sucks big time when it comes to warranty issues. My Chevy cobalt didn't make it past 17,000 miles before the tranny went out in it. Apparently they build the transmissions in China with left over cheap plastic and aluminum. Pretty sad when my 89 mazda b2600i pickup had 223,000+ miles on it and still had the original transmission, clutch, engine, and transfer case.

I suggest buying a Toyota Camry, they get better gas mileage than the Aveo, and are much more reliable.

I own two Aveo's, an 04&07. the recomended change interval for the timing belts on these 1.6 engines is every 60,000mls. If , as you say the belt failed with under 50,000mls this will be covered under your power train warrenty. Which was extended from 36,000mls to 60,000mls for the 04's after they went on sale in the US. I have this update with my 04. Don't let your dealer bullshit you! If they are not willing to rectify the problem, call GM's customer complaint number.

Aveo Powertrain guarantee: 5 year. / 60,000 mi. you're out of guarantee, sorry. And sure, there's a severe possibility it is going to break your engine in case you attempt to rigidity it. oftentimes in case you replace the belt, the pulleys might desire to be replaced besides because of the fact the water pump at that mileage. ~$60-ninety for the belt; $500-seven hundred for the entire alternative (belt, pulleys, pump)
