How do I format my microSD card for my samsung sync? I bought the product new from eBay and I got the 1GB memory card and the TransFlash adapter. My computer does not have a port for the adapter in order for me to format it? Do I have to install the software for the phone?

You can use either a pcmcia, USB, or express card reader to slip the transflash adapter into. These multi-card readers are available at Walmart for under $20.
Load the phone's software onto your computer and read the .pdf manual on how to format the memory card.
I'm surprised, however, that the samsung phone doesn't have a menu item for formatting the microSD card once it's in the slot on the phone. The phone's manual should have this information.
