If noone wants the ashes, spread the ashes in a location significant to the aunt, then give the urn as a white elephant. Spreading the ashes of a dead relative is fairly common and would be both socially acceptable and respectful to the dead aunt.
Giving the ashes themselves would be very tacky and disrespectful, but the empty urn would be a great white elephant gift, once you have spread the ashes.

I would give it to the brother.... that or sprinkle the ashes in the ocean or something.... that is what my grandparents wanted done with their ashes... my grandma died 13 years before my grandpa, after he died they mixed the ashes together & sprinkled them all over my grandparents property. I think giving somebody's ashes as a gift to people at a company party is disgusting, not only because i'm sure they don't want somebody's ashes and i'm sure some family members might want the aunt's ashes. So what if they didn't know you had them in the first place, you can tell them you have them and ask if anybody would like to have them, if they don't sprinkle them in the ocean or something.....

I don't think you should bring that as a gift to your company party because I highly doubt that anyone will find the humor in it as you do. I don't think that ashes are something to just "give away" no matter how much the person meant to you. I think you should give it to her brother... but before you do announce it and have a talk with the family and let them know why you've both made your decision rather than secretly hand them over to them...

I agree with JB it depends on your families and co-workers sense of humor. I would do it to my co-workers but that is because I know that it would go down in the history books here as the best White Elephant gift ever.

that is absolutely cruel to the receiver. what are THEY supposed to do with them?!! how would you feel if some one did that to you?!! if you don't want the ashes, take them and spread them in a stream or something respectful like that. remember, what goes around comes around. one day it will be your ashes.

why don't you scatter her ashes in place that she loved or that she always wanted to go to.
If I would get that present with a dead persons ashes, no matter who it is without knowing that would be disgusting and weird.

That would not be a good idea. Not funny at all. You should not give someone's ashes to anyone. That is sick.
