In my opinion, you shouldn't be allowed to be a citizen unless you speak English. You are blessed with citizenship from the greatest country in the world, the least you can do is learn the language.is that too much to ask? What level of commitment to integrate does that show if you are here 20 years and the only two words in English you can say are "No English"?

I love how when I say this there is at least one lib who instead of answering the question, chooses to denigrate fellow Americans for their dialect or level of education.

Tancredo is right on so many things, and his remedies have the potential to be effective. So far, he's my choice for president...I wish he was more popular.

I agree with your addendum...the lefties rarely answer my questions, frequently asking questions back, or going off on tangents. I wonder how they did in school, when they were required to do essay's instead of multiple choice questions.

i believe it is because people have of other countries, especially Mexico, have lost their respect for this country. many of our ancestors eagerly came over here to start a new life. they did so by learning English and becoming part of the American culture while still retaining their old one. Nowadays people don't feel the need to learn English because they don't want to be a part of our culture. that is why so many people are trying to make this a bilingual nation when were are certainly not. if the founding fathers would have known this was going to happen, i think one of the first amendment to the Constitution would be English as the official language. being right outside Philly i loved that Geno's stood up for themselves and demanded that people order in English. what was sad was the outcry against them because people believed them to be racist and hate non-English speaking persons. But the owners of Geno's were almost certainly immigrants to this country and probably didn't know much English yet they seemed to integrate their culture into ours. English is the core of our culture and we need to put an end to people trying to force in another language and have English finally recognized as our official language.

Tancredo has an excellent voting record. He just has lousy people managing his campaign. It takes money to hire a great PR team and beyond. It also takes money to manipulate the masses if he were a dirty rotter like Guiliani. He could have gotten a lot of contributions from grass roots if he had a better team behind him. He certainly isn't going to get any corporate money or special interest money since he never votes in favor of any of them. He also has little friends in the political arena since he won't play ball with them. Too bad an honest person with strong convictions isn't recognized by the people he is trying to protect in a lot of ways.

I didn't hear about that thanks for the info.Bravo to him!!!
My Great-Grand-Father came to America from Lithuania speaking 5 languages (Lithuanian,Latvian,Estonian,Polish,Russian),and some German. That made him a Boss in the Ship-yards.
My Mother's Father came from Northern Italy(Near France) speaking French, and Italian.
They both learned English!!!
Not they had to but because they wanted to!!!
I was told by both"We're from the(I never meet my Great-Grand-Father,so my Grand-Father said it!) the Old Country but you,and your Parents are Americans!"
They always said they were American-(Insert Country) not the other way around.
Sorry to offend some people,I hate (Insert Country)-American's,that's a bunch of crap!!!
We're all American's!!!

I don't suppose he had to do something like that for political reasons, given his name and the face that there was minimal chance of his measures passing.
